Meetings

We meet twice annually: once in the fall and once in the spring. The location of the fall meeting varies, but the spring meeting is usually held in Raleigh. This fall we were pleased to host the Royster, NC-ASA student award competitions.

May 18, Spring Meeting 2012

Still in it's infancy, we are planning a great lineup! Amazing lectures on the influence of natural sound on our lives. We are inviting all humans interested in the role that we as acousticians provide in architecture; speech; hearing; bioacoustics; history; paleontology; geology; and more. Come and join the meeting and live music lineup after the meeting Friday night. We have single and double rooms assigned at Haw River State Park for Thursday May 17. Please Contact The Chair for reservations. Stay tuned for more information on the musical lineup. If you are a musician interested in joining please contact the website.

Our Fall 2004 meeting

We had a marvelous time! On Friday night we held a social with Jack Hinshelwood's Appalacian Spring band, and a superb dinner. While we were busy enjoying ourselves, the judges held the judging of the student papers for the $5,000 Royster award, the NC-ASA award and the IRIS Environmental award.

On Saturday we had several interesting lectures and handed out the student prizes!

Our Spring 2004 meeting:

.......Featured Speakers Bob Coffeen, University of Kansas

and:

Dr. Allan J. Zuckerwar

Dr. Allan J. Zuckerwar is Fellow of the ASA and an associate editor for JASA in Acoustical measurements, Instrumentation, and Applied Acoustics. Allan also specializes in infrasound, is the author of the Handbook of the Speed of Sound in Real Gasses, an ex-officio member of the ASA Technical Committee Council, and is the Chairman of Standards Committee S1-26, High Frequency Calibration of the Pressure Sensitivity of Microphones.  Allan was a contributor to the development of a flexible sensor, a thin-film pressure transducer that fits over aircraft wings and measures the wind pressure against them. It  also fits over the maternal abdomen, creating a passive fetal heart monitor, that picks up pressure from the pulses of the fetus's heart. The physician can monitor those beats from afar, with the sound sent over a telephone or in visual data through the Internet.
